Sephardic Shabbaton in Orlando Recap

This past weekend, students gathered in Orlando for an unforgettable Sephardic Shabbaton filled with Ladino engagement and Sephardic culture. The program kicked off Thursday night with fun ice breakers with Sarah Aroeste and Ethan Marcus who help everyone get to know one another.

Friday morning was full of delicious baking as the Bivas teens baked biscochos, challah, and stuffed grape leaves with Miriam Raphael Klein. Later on, they enjoyed engaging Ladino song and learning sessions led by Sarah Aroeste, diving deeper into Sephardic heritage. The afternoon brought some Florida fun with a trip to the waterpark before we welcomed Shabbat together Friday night with beautiful tefillot and singing.

On Shabbat day, students led a spirited Sephardic minyan, followed by lunch and more inspiring group discussions. After Havdalah, we headed out for a night of rides and laughter at Fun Spot.

The weekend wrapped up Sunday with a final breakfast together, then a thrilling day at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. It was a weekend full of learning, laughter, and lasting memories. Stay tuned for information on our next Sephardic shabbaton which will take place in the Fall of 2025! Can’t wait for the next one!
